OpenAI Dots Pricing for US Users – Is It Really Free? So I kept seeing OpenAI Dots everywhere after DevDay and I was like, wait, is this another paid thing? I’m already paying $20 for Plus. Do I need to pay again?
I actually tested it yesterday for my blog, so let me break down the real pricing for US users. No fancy talk.
What is OpenAI Dots?
Honestly it’s pretty simple. Dots are like little workers inside ChatGPT.
Normal ChatGPT waits for you. You type, it replies. Done.
With Dots, you tell it do this task every day and it just keeps doing it. Even when you’re sleeping. I told one Dot to track AI news for me and it pinged me this morning. Kinda creepy but helpful lol.
Is it free in the US?
Yeah, it is. Kinda.
Everyone in US gets free plan inside ChatGPT. You get like 50 tasks a month, some templates, and 1GB storage. That’s it.
I started with free. For my college project it was fine. If you’re just testing, free is more than enough.
But here’s the thing I didn’t know at first. If you want unlimited and that new Sol model, you gotta pay.
So how much is Pro?
It’s $20 a month in US. Same as Plus.
If you pay for full year it’s $200, you save $40. I pay monthly tho, I don’t like yearly stuff.
What you get for $20? Unlimited Dots, Sol access which is super fast btw, 100GB storage, and you can hook up your Gmail and Drive.
And yeah if you already have ChatGPT Plus, you already have Dots Pro. I almost paid twice. Don’t do that.
Student discount for US?
Yes and this is good.
If you got a .edu email you get 50% off for 6 months. So $10 not $20.
My cousin let me use his .edu, verification took 2 mins with SheerID. Super easy.
If you’re in college in US, just use that. No point paying full.
Should you pay?
Look, if you’re a student – stay on free. Seriously.
If you make YouTube videos or blog like me or have a small shop, then yeah $20 makes sense. I cancelled my Notion AI after this.
Bottom line? Yes it’s free to start in US. But real one is $20. Students get it for $10.
FAQ:
Do I need Plus for Dots?
Nope. Free gives you 50. Plus is unlimited.
Is student deal outside US?
Not yet. Right now only US .edu works.
Will it replace Docs?
Not fully. For research yeah, for writing maybe.
